Upon your arrival in Chiang Mai, you’ll be greeted and transferred to your hotel to settle in and get ready to explore this charming northern Thai city. Your first visit will be to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai’s most revered temple, located atop a mountain that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. This sacred place is a spiritual symbol for locals and a must-see landmark for visitors. After a morning of spirituality and natural beauty, you’ll immerse yourself in the historic heart of Chiang Mai. You’ll visit Wat Phra Singh, famous for its intricate Lanna-style decorations, and Wat Chedi Luang, another iconic temple that houses the relic of the Buddha. During lunch, you will be able to enjoy the authentic flavors of the local cuisine in a typical restaurant, savoring traditional dishes in a cozy environment. The evening will be dedicated to a stroll through Chiang Mai’s vibrant night markets, where you will have the opportunity to shop for local handicrafts and enjoy Thai street food.
Start your day with a unique dining experience by taking a Thai cooking class. You’ll visit a local market to pick out fresh ingredients, and then learn how to prepare traditional dishes under the guidance of expert chefs. This will allow you to take home a piece of Thai culture to share with friends and family. In the afternoon, you can choose to visit the Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden, an oasis of tranquility where you can admire a vast collection of exotic plants and colorful flowers, or go to an elephant sanctuary. In the latter, you will have the opportunity to learn more about these magnificent animals in an ethical and sustainable environment, contributing to their protection. The day will end with dinner along the Ping River, followed by a leisurely evening stroll through downtown Chiang Mai, where you can enjoy the relaxed and lively atmosphere of the city.
The day begins with a hike to Doi Inthanon, the highest mountain in Thailand. Here, you can visit the spectacular waterfalls, trek along the nature trails, and marvel at the twin pagodas built in honor of the king and queen, which offer breathtaking views of the surrounding forest. This place is ideal for those who love nature and want to live an experience of tranquility and beauty. In the afternoon, you will return to Chiang Mai and visit the Baan Tawai Craft Village, renowned for its carved wood products and high-quality local handicrafts. You’ll have the opportunity to see artisans at work and purchase one-of-a-kind pieces to take home as a souvenir of your trip. The evening will be enhanced by a dinner at a local restaurant, accompanied by a traditional Lanna dance show, which will give you a taste of the culture and traditions of northern Thailand.
After breakfast, you’ll depart Chiang Mai in the direction of Chiang Rai, a scenic drive of about 3-4 hours by car. On the way, you’ll make a stop at Wat Rong Khun, known as the White Temple, a masterpiece of modern Thai art famous for its unique artistic details and symbolic significance. Upon arrival in Chiang Rai, you’ll continue your discovery with a visit to Wat Rong Suea Ten, known as the Blue Temple, famous for its vibrant interiors that mix shades of blue and gold. Next, you will visit Wat Huay Pla Kang, famous for its impressive statue of the Big Buddha, located on a hill that offers panoramic views of the city. The evening will be dedicated to a visit to the Chiang Rai Night Bazaar, where you can buy local products and enjoy delicious Thai specialties for dinner.
Your final morning in Chiang Rai will be dedicated to free time for one last exploration of the city. You can choose to visit the Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet along the Mekong River, or devote yourself to further discovering the city center, enjoying the peaceful and welcoming atmosphere of this region. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Chiang Rai International Airport for your departure, thus concluding a journey full of discoveries and cultural wonders in northern Thailand.
